Welcome to Friedrichsthal’s homepage.

Thank you for logging on to our site.  Come with us on a virtual tour of our town.

My name is Rolf Schultheis and I have been mayor of this lovely town since 1st April 2008.

Friedrichsthal is one of the more recent towns in our federal state of Saarland.  However, the first reference to Friedrichsthal was in a document from the year 1723
and there are now, in fact three places which belong to Friedrichsthal :- Friedrichsthal itself, Bildstock and Maybach.  The economic base of the first inhabitants was in an earlier form of the glass industry.  Over the years mining became the most important industry in the area and remained so until the structural change.  Several mining relics can still be found in Friedrichsthal today.

Friedrichsthal has become a popular place to live and there are currently 11,000 inhabitants in our “Town in the Countryside”. This is also partly due to the excellent transport links.  Nearby we have connections to three motorways, very good bus services as well as three railway stations. (German State Railway) If you are travelling by car, then “Grühling Strasse” will take you straight into Saarbrücken, Saarland’s main city.

The people of Friedrichsthal know how to enjoy life!  “Savoir-vivre” is not a foreign word for us!  After all, it’s only a short distance from here to France, or even Luxembourg.

Friedrichsthal has an awful lot to offer those who live here.  There are over one hundred different clubs for sports and musical or cultural activities.  Many of our inhabitants are also involved with voluntary organisations.  By working together, the helpful citizens of our town make Friedrichsthal a safe and pleasant place to live.

I have gained first hand experience of the way the people of Friedrichsthal stick together and help one another. Indeed, I have made it one of my priorities to support these conscientious inhabitants in their daily efforts.

All around Friedrichsthal you will find forests which can be used for different forms of recreation, as well as a large network of hiking paths.  There are numerous shops and businesses offering a wide range of goods and services.

For your leisure time Friedrichsthal is able to offer a swimming pool, an outdoor pool, tennis courts, bowling alleys, a crazy golf course, several sports fields and sports halls as well as horse-riding and angling facilities.

My slogan is “the town of generations”.  The internet is the form of media for all generations and gives you the possibility to access information in the virtual town hall whenever you want - at night, on Sunday or on a public holiday.  That is to say, a
24-hour service for all of our citizens.  In order to continue improving this service, we need your help.  So please don’t hesitate to contact my co-workers or myself, whether by phone, by mail or in person.

We look forward to hearing your opinions and questions.

Of-course, Friedrichsthal has lots more to offer than I can show you on this site.  Come and visit us, and find out for yourselves!

I look forward to welcoming you.

From your mayor

Rolf Schultheis
